Sundance Gets New Venue: Rehoboth Mall Transformed for Two-Night event
Sundance, the huge two-day Labor Day weekend event that benefits CAMP Rehoboth, will be even bigger and brighter this year, thanks to an innovative new setting. The event’s usual home, the Rehoboth Convention Center, is closed for the year, forcing event organizers to find a new venue. They came up with the outside-the-box idea to transform the interior of the nearly empty Rehoboth Mall, using the large atrium space, much of the main concourse, and even some of the empty store spaces as the setting for the popular auction and dance events. The inspired choice will not only allow for creative staging, but also provide plenty of free parking—a huge advantage for the hundreds of participants that take part each year. Shuttles will also be run from downtown Rehoboth.
Sundance 2016: Rainbow XXIX: Sol Groove will be held September 3-4. The first night is the silent and live auction with auctioneer Lorne Crawford and music by Stephen Strasser. This event, which will take place Saturday, September 3, 7-10 p.m., features a cocktail buffet and an open bar all night. The auction will include hundreds of vacation packages, dining opportunities, fine art, gift items, and one-of-a-kind experiences. Cruises from Olivia Travel and Accent on Travel will be up for bid, along with dozens of other auction items across a wide spectrum of price points.
The second night, Sunday, September 4, is a dance party from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., featuring one of the most sought-after DJs in the country, DJ/Remixer Joe Gauthreaux. Gauthreaux has played at clubs and parties all over the world and has remixed artists such as Tony Moran, Frenchie Davis, Kristine W. Bimbo Jones, Ne-Yo, and even Justin Bieber. The dance event will also include an open bar all night.
Although Sundance is always an extravaganza, this year’s event promises to be the most spectacular yet. The new location provides myriad opportunities for creative use of space, decoration, and staging. Participants can attend either or both nights of the event (tickets are $45 for one night, $80 for both).
